One of my fav exterior detail shots...EVER!

Want to know what I've been up to...oh the last 5 months or so?? Well, for the most part I've been at this home, and I think it's been time well spent, don't you think?

This was one of our pre-sold homes, with great new homeowners, in a great neighborhood. I will post more pics of this home in my next blog (as well as finished pics of Lot 2 Amesley Manor!) but for now I wanted to give you some great detail shots of this home and hope it explains why I might have been too busy to blog the past few months! I hope to get back to blogging weekly now! I have a couple of new projects that are progressing nicely and it's time to start showing them off!

Gotta love a mustache curl light! I always say that the exterior lighting on the home is like jewelry...the finishing touch that just gives a home the ummph it is lacking...take away this light and I would have come close, but the home would have been missing soooo much flair!

Exterior Iron Entry Door...I had the pattern of the door match the exterior light pattern! Details, Details! tsk tsk!

Signature Sugg Look! Copper Sink, Napoleon Granite, Bronze Faucets...tile backsplashes...never gets old!

The homeowner's daughter is one lucky little girl and is already the most popular girl in the neighborhood! Her room features a round sitting room off of her suite and looks out unto the front yard...we called it Rapuzel's Tower! It also had a lookout down into the entry hall, so we installed some cute shutter doors to give her a little privacy when she is doing top-secret girl things...like mani/pedi's with all her new girlfriends!

A glass etched Laundry door is beautiful when light from outside shines from behind...what a beautiful glow! The lady of the house thinks Laundry=Luxury in this home! Why not?

Another great feature...a cubby for each of the kiddos! LOVE how well these turned out!

Another great feature I love? The stained wood used in the home...the mantels, the porch ceilings...and the stairs! They really turned out fantastic and gave the home a warmer, more cozy feel. I love exposed, stained wood!

The. Stair. Rails. Need I say more? I am totally crushing on this rail pattern right now. You actually might get sick of seeing it. But I promise to finish it in different colors until I move unto a new obsession!

ROCK! Another Sugg signature! If you don't believe that, go check out 1305 Layman Drive! Rock in this home was used on the fireplaces, and the colors of the rock blended perfectly with the other natural stone and masonry used on the home.

Cabinets...prob always sets the tone for every home imo. The glaze really shows up well on the buttercream, giving it a great old world touch!

Metallic Glass Tile! Need I say more??

Big Copper Sinks in the Kitchen. Again I think they add warmth and age to a new home. Kinda like you moved into a beautiful older restored home...except I do all the work instead of you!lol

Great closeup of the granite used throughout the home...I think it is really important to pull your color palate from the colors of the natural textiles used in the home...this is a color I will go to over and over and over...I love light countertops! They really just brighten up a space...and hide dust! ;-)

Had to stick another pic of the cabinets in this post! I'm a sucker for a buttercream distressed cabinet!

Stained floors! Turned out Ah-Mazing if I do say so myself! Concrete floor staining is hard and tricky work! You never know what you are going to turn out with! I was blessed these were a perfect compliment to the home!

Prep sink in the kitchen...def needed with this busy family! Love the details on the handles of the faucet! Love how the dark copper and faucet finish bring out the spots in the granite! This homeowner liked bright colors, so I needed some dark to place in areas for contrast.

Lighting. Traditional lighting was used in this home...isn't this a neat shot?

In Progress: Striped in the Theater Room at Amesley Manor! I am loving the tone on tone look. Subtle but Sassy! I plan to incorporate this metallic shade in the powder room, dining room, and entry hall! It is that amazing! Trying to decide if I should paint the ceiling in metallic or if it will be too distracting during movie time?

Don't mind the green Frog tape!

More Amesley Snapshots! Color Crazy!

Are you sick of seeing pics of this home yet? I hope not! In the words of my bestie Bailey, I think I may have gone and done it this time with this awesome distressed blue. I am sooooo in love!

Kitchen Butcher Block Work Table. The cabinets are on each side are the main caramel cabinet color and is opposite the green island.

I took a gamble and painted the wood exterior doors going outside throughout the home (located off the kitchen, dining room, and garage) and the whole crew is drooling over them! Win!

The Cubbies were going to be blue all along...and were painted blue...but after pulling the trigger on making the exterior doors and shutters blue, and the mudroom is right between two of these awesome blue doors...I wanted to mix it up so I changed it to the island color...Win! This sits on a brick wall and has brick insets and is just Bah-na-nas!

I had this Gothic Arch Front Entry Door custom made for this home and had all the other arches in the home echo the shape. What a labor of love all these arches were! All the guys were like huh? You want what? Sigh...so they all had to be worth it. Must be seen. The exterior of this home is large and in charge, but I wanted this door to pop and be the bold focal point of the front exterior. I think this will fit the bill. Thumbs up!

Wine Racks! These are always some of the most popular pieces in any of my homes...and I had to give these a little shine! They are open ended from the Kitchen/Hearth Room into the Dining Room (which stayed tuned, we will be working with metallics in this room, in the theater, and the powder room next week!) and will match the French Doors leading out unto the back porch! Fun!!!

This weekend I will be staining the floors and getting ready for the downstairs paint so we can get to countertops, light fixtures (which are totally droolworthy!), and yummy travertine sinks installed throughout the home!

I'm developing a SERIOUS Crush on this Kitchen!

Wow, what a difference a day makes around here...

I just had to snap a pic of the cabinets in process at Amesley Manor. This kitchen is going to be pretty major, if I say so myself! Love love love the green island! Can't wait to see the blue cubbies and work table getting sprayed and glazed today! (Don't worry I will snap a few pics to share with you guys too!) This home is getting very close to completion, roughly 20-30 days out now! Come check it out if you are in this neck of the woods!

I'm so excited to get to share some progress pics of Lot 2 Amesley Manor..I wish I would have last week before the painters started masking everything off...but oh well! I will try to update this home every home as more and more things get completed! I know it may just look like a messy job site right now...but I promise lots of love and attention has been put into every detail and all my guys have been working so hard to make all my ideas (and pictures lol inside joke) become a reality!

I am taking such pride in this home...partly because it has totally taken me out of my comfort zone in so many ways...such as...

New School district...

Being the 1st spec in a new neighboorhood (which is AWESOME by the way, Jonesboro's first gated community!)...

No Slurry on the brick (a new technique we developed! that I will blog about next week)...

New Cabinetmaker (who is such a rockstar! What was I worried for? ;-)...

Added 1200 square feet to an already awesome plan that I have built and sold in the past...

And, oh yeah, just putting a 5000+ sqft spec home, need I say more?? umm, can we say Pressure anyone?! Luckily...I am a person who works best under pressure!

What do you think so far? I would love some feedback!

Taming The Trends...Paint

One of my newest design elements...Brushed Suede Paint on Ceilings. The textured trend adds so much wow, but without distracting from my other favorite design elements such as the two story rock fireplace and exposed beams. It just enhances the other features.

I guess it's safe to say I am not a creature of habit...I love change! That's how I know I am made to be a homebuilder. Homebuilders must be able to be Madonna. Change...Adjust...Evolve...and I believe the key to success is making sure you do it first!

BUT...most people do not like change. They must slowly be introduced in new things. In this world you can't get too far ahead of the trends either. I try to incorporate new things, but never at the expense of all the other things I normally do. I basically try to enhance, not recreate the wheel. A Taming of the Trends so to speak...

Another New Crush....Limewashed Woodwork. Love it...the blog world can't get enough...but I will work this in by still keeping my signature warm colors, keeping what works for me now, but also appreciating how well it can adapt and change when someone wants a new look in 10 years. In this case, the trend is actually timeless.

I am always very busy overseeing the construction sites- keeping everyone on track, on budget, and on time, but I also invest huge chunks of time (mostly late into the night) studying my craft. I am always looking for something new and different I can incorporate into my homes...I have two computers filled with blog pictures and floorplan samples, my office is littered with old At Home in Arkansas, House Beautiful, Veranda, etc. publications...some over 10-15 years old! Those Post-It Notes Flags?...why didn't I think of those??? I should have bought stock in the company I use so many of those darn things to mark anything from a paint color to a landscape bush to a brick design. It may be four years down the road, but I will create that koi pond I just saw at the last hotel I stayed at. It will be perfect for the right yard and home somewhere down the line...and I will have 31 different angle shots of it when the time comes!

I am a house junkie...I just can't get enough...I will drive 2 hours one way to look at paint samples I can't get my hands on anywhere closer because they called and have a dozen new colors. I guess in a nutshell you can say I love the hunt. The hunt to find the next thing to make people ooo and ahh over. Burt hunts deer and duck...I hunt design.

Ahhh....one of my favorite obsessions..Chalkboard Walls. It's very right now, but the functionality outweighs the funkiness. The paint is recently being made into tintable colors to blend into your current colors, but I'm a sucker for the classic school green and the bold black. I also love this look because it needs nothing but chalk and imagination to create whatever look and function you need from it.

Since we build in such a wide price range, I try to look for details that could be incorporated in a home of any price or size. Things such as the paint techniques I shared with you above.

I plan to continue this post with other design trend elements such as cabinets, trim, stairs, etc.

The $18,000 Cookie!

Lookout Martha...today I made cookies so good they will just break you down...diet? What diet?

It all started because I am working on a pantry makeover, honestly an overhaul. Then while looking at cute canisters and such for my pantry makeover I wanted to update all my recipes...weed out and only keep the winners...only those I would hand-write on my new obsession, Rifle Paper recipe cards and place into my newly ordered Rifle Paper recipe box, found here. How very Martha of me, right? I am thinking these might be Christmas presents for many people this year too...

So, in order to do this, I wanted to find only the best recipes for my favorite treats and dishes...so of course I started with desserts. And it looks like recipe #1 was a winner! Best chocolate chips cookies (and the easiest) I can remember making in a while. I guess I can check Chocolate Chip cookies off my recipe search! Next up? Cheesecake!

Goodbye Computer Print Out Recipes!

I found this awesome recipe on The Happy Housewife. The lady who created this recipe won $18K for it! Worth every penny!

Here it is!

Lauren’s Thank-You Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients

3/4 cup Granulated Sugar
3/4 cup Packed Brown Sugar
3/4 cup Stick Butter or Margarine, softened
1 large Egg
1 tsp. Vanilla Extract
2-1/4 cups Flour
1 tsp. Baking Soda
1/2 tsp. Salt
1 package (12-oz.) Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips

Directions

Preheat oven to 375.

In a large bowl, mix sugars, butter, egg, and vanilla until smooth. Stir in flour, baking soda, and salt. Add chocolate chips.

Use cookie scoop or spoons to drop dough by rounded tablespoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet.

Bake 7 to 8 minutes per batch. Cookies should be slightly golden but still pale. Cool 5 minutes on cookie sheet before removing to wire rack.

Makes approximately 4 dozen cookies, unless you have a husband who sneaks half the dough before you can bake it.

Best enjoyed within 48 hours of baking.

Top Ten From Winter Market!

This bench perfectly matches my shutters outside, and I love iron awning! I just I just found the perfect pieces for my little rock patio off the master!

This weekend I went on a quick trip to Dallas market, and found sooo many cute things....some things were new...some things I had seen before...but overall I have more than enough I am wanting to order! I posted 10 great pieces I found, but think I might also post a top 10 decor, as well as a top 10 furniture post just so I can show you guys more!

This hutch was ah-mazing! Ordered for my open dining room. I think it would look awesome with any decor style...

The whole must go reason for market is light fixtures and things to spruce up our new construction homes...and I scored major this time, isn't this awesome? I love that it could go super funky with modern decor or look like a timeless antique in other decor situations.

Mirrors! Another get reason for an example to market...I always need great vanity mirrors, right? I have been drooling over these babies...they have been floating over the blogsphere for a little while and I was so glad when the first showroom I walked into they slapped me in the face! Woohoo! Love this line...let's just say it didn't take me long to reach my minimum for this vendor! ;-)

This is Major! This is a door header! Too late for Lot 2 Amesley Manor (my current larger spec home on the market) as we are already sheet rocking and way behind schedule...but Lot 3 Amesley these belong to you! Wouldn't these be awesome built into archways?

Felt Petal Pillows are it right now! Isn't the wingback fierce? This is one of my favorite showrooms...they never disappoint.

Can you tell I am a sucker for a distressed piece? Love, Love, Love the stripes! My current home, Woodsprings, is a total play on stripes. This piece belongs...somewhere in this house! I will make room for it! If I had a retail shop, this would make an awesome display...hmmmm...

I'm a sucker for the baby floor at market as well. I could make a whole post about all the cuteness there was for baby! Totally gives me baby fever! But, for now, these frames will have to do. I think they will mix well in some of the brighter colors in my bookshelves and on countertops, etc. Too cute!

This was a set of three standing nesting tables. I love them! I think they will look great around my new copper tubs to hold all my bubble bath and candles!;-) Because this Builder must have her Calgon, take me away for just a few sweet minutes of silence every night after long days of pure chaos!

This chest knocked my socks off! I've seen it before in catalogs, but never in person...I plan to order two for a set of quirky nightstands for one of my upstairs bedrooms, they are on the pricey side, but are room makers!!! Love!

I also came home with about 15 new or updated catalogs! So...I will be engrossed in them the next several days and months ordering away...if you are interested in any of the pieces above feel free to email me and I can shoot you over a price! Overall, this market was a success- it was full of life and lots of orders were being taken! I was pleased to fight the crowds and see that it was busy like it was 3-4 years ago...it's always a good sign when people are spending money on purchasing new retail for their stores!

I am busy working on my range hood in my house...it's def still a work in process, but thought I would share a sneak peek! Hopefully I can finish it up today and move onto...all the other things that need to be finished!lol

What do you think? I am working with liquid guild and patterned sheet foils! I just wish it was a tad darker, I am looking for a bronze, coppery color...

The Many Uses of An Outdoor Fireplace!

What a beautiful Saturday! I have finally moved into 3505 Woodsprings (New Pics Coming Soon!) and are starting to settle in, but since it was so pretty out today I thought it would be a great day to work finishing up the landscaping around the pool. We planted the spiral trees several months back, but wanted to wait until we settled in before we sealed off the flagstone and put the filler in around the outdoor fireplace. The outdoor fireplace was actually going to be some type of fountain that would flow into the pool, but the more I thought about it, the fireplace just made more sense, especially since I will need to cover the pool over the winter so my wise guys outside won't try to go ice skating. I was actually about to put some wood in the firebox...that is until I realized that Duke had made it his new bed! Silly dog!

Spotlight On: John Keller Custom Finishing!

Was so excited to check out the new website for John Keller Custom Finishing! John and Marilyn are the team who helped make all my wild ideas a reality on the 507 Huntcliff Drive, as well as my new home at 3505 Woodsprings Drive! I know you guys are probably really sick of seeing pictures of this kitchen, but it was such a labor of love and was resurrected by John and Marilyn so I had to post a blog when I saw this!
His work is unsurpassed and is really at the top of his game! There is no better finisher in town!
John and Marilyn also build and finish custom furniture (they are currently also building my dining room table and a hanging bed upstairs!) and do complete makeovers to kitchen and bathrooms that need facelifts! Check out their website here. I'm honored and excited they chose to use one of my homes to showcase their work!

If These Walls Could Talk...

What a score! I actually have to thank Burt for scoring these. Someone who works for him let him know that they had a friend that had actually torn down a cabin built around 1850, and that they had kept all the wood! As soon as he told me about it, I immediately asked for pictures. An hour later, we were racing to figure out where and how to get them back to the house and what are we would do with them! So far we have placed them in the kitchen, dining room, entry way, living room, in some doorways, and in the master bathroom...and I can't wait to show them all to you, but for now, here they are in natural form.
The cabin was a 16x20 cabin, so about half of the beams are 16 ft long, and the rest are 6.5ft long, because two sides of the cabin had a door and a fireplace cut out of the middle. Some of the beams have had a paint job, some have wallpaper (I'm talking the old school wallpaper, which is fabric that is tacked to the wall) and all are full of character. We also realized that for every beam, one whole tree was used for each one, and these had to be HUGE trees because these beams are over 2 ft wide! This was probably built by one man and maybe one helper, what a job, right? I am guessing by the timeline this would have been when people were moving out farther West, and this family were either farmers or loggers. Pretty neat, right?
This week has been spent planning the best course of action in dividing the beams up per room, because I am trying to get the most use out of all of them that I can! I have to admit though, in the middle of all of this, I have realized that I in fact have destructed someone else's home and basically put it inside of mine. If only these walls could talk! I can only hope that life was pleasant inside that cabin and it will be a good omen to them to be inside of mine!

507 Huntcliff, A Whimsical Rustic Abode

In one of the last posts I made last year, I posted about 507 Huntcliff, a home that Burt and I were building for ourselves. Wellllll, techinically we did get to spend the night there, (actually 15) but the day after we moved in and while I was hanging the drapes, a wonderful couple pulled up outside and made us a offer we couldn't refuse! Soooo, we moved back to the loft for 2 weeks, and then into a rental. We started on our new house around Christmas time, but more about that house later! I wanted to post a couple of pics from 507 Huntcliff. This house was such a labor of love! Everything that could go wrong did twice or three times, but it turned out wonderful! I only have a few great shots because the move was so sudden and we had to get ready for an addition and a pool the new couple wanted.
The new lady of the house kept almost everything the same, down to the drapes! I hope they are enjoying their new home!

Above: The Master Bathroom Shower and Jacuzzi done completely in slate tile with Danze Antique Copper Fixtures and Flambeau Lighting.Below: A Copper Apron sink is the perfect accent to the island. Yummy Strawberry cake from our new neighbors was inside my Gracious Goods Cake Dome! The dark glazed stenciled walls adds to the whimiscal effect and is carried into the dining room.

Below: I love Jenn Air pro appliances! They have an old-school kinda look to them. I am also a big fan of pot fillers. They are so functional as well as give depth to the backsplash. The backsplash is accented with copper tiles to pick up the copper sink!

Can you believe all the cabinets started out being black? It was a bad choice of mine, but worked out well as a base coat for all the distressing we did to them. The firewood red color was picked to blend with the interior brick used on walls, and on the range hood. This design was also a labor of love, nobody could understand what I had in my head for this, but we finally got it right!!

It's hard to tell in this pic, but I added a window seat in the 45 degree turn this kitchen took into the hearth room. It will be perfect for the custom table we had built for the new family!

I never got to hang anything in this house, but I had big plans for the open space in front of the double fridge/freezer wall! I love how the shelves turned out on the tall wall above the fridge. Great for all kinds of goodies! Also the vault in the kitchen looks great with the cedar beams vaulting across the ceiling. The arch opening peaks into the Dining Room.

A peak from the Entry Hall into the Kitchen and Hearth Room. Burt and I practically lived in this room! We had all we needed, a 72" flatscreen, a Restoration Hardware oversizes Leather Sofa, and food in the kitchen! You also get a glimpse of the pantry door in this shot!

The green hutch cabinet was made alongside all the other cabinetry in the home, but I really wanted it to POP! so I painted it a distressed green color. The criss-cross doors on the hutch are backed in chicken wire to give it a antiqued look! This was one of my favorite feature of the house as well as the Flambeau breakfast light!!

The formal living room was in disarray when this photo was taken. Things were starting to get packed up, including the mantle. The big arch-top window was made by the great silk polka dot drapes, and of course the polka dot chairs helped out a little as well. The Flambeau chandelier also helps bring out the rustic elegance of this house without anything being taken too seriously.

The Hearth Room comes out of the Entry Hall and featured a real wood burning fireplace and cedar built-ins. I never got to completely fill them up! lol Love how the stripes run into one side of the wall, and the glazed stencil picks up and runs into the kitchen. A brick wall rounds out the other side of this room.

The final exterior pic. Love the slurred brick (our signature) and all the cedar detailing! Also love the copper louvers and chimney pots!

The cedar wine racks in the dining room, which steps down from the rest of the home and also allows into the screened back porch with fireplace.

The stairway was also a labor of love. I wanted a curve, and this is what I ended up with. Looks pretty good. I love the iron stair railing, so fun! It also keeps up the diamond theme that runs throughout the home!

The Theater Room!! I found this fun bohemian shell light fixture that was over 6 feet long and 3 feet deep! It was hard to get it insode the room! The plaid drapes continue the plaid drape theme throughout the home. The deep purple walls contrast nicely against the bright orange velour chairs and chocolate brown sofa. The carpet upstairs was non other but a diamond grid brown low profile Shaw. Love this room!!

This Mud Room was so fun!! I played up the brick wall behind the mud room cubbies and added a fun antique sign! I also found really cute hangers that were hung later. A perfect catch-all coming into the house from the garage. This pic also shows a great pic of the turtoise shell concrete floors that do a great job of just blending into everything else and allowing other pieces of the home to stand out!

This home is the perfect example of my style. I love bright colors, and fun fabrics, and the home to have all the nice features of a luxury home, but is still a home that begs to be lived in! I hope you enjoy the pics!! Please feel welcome to leave feedback! I welcome it!

Ok, so I know I have taken an extremely long absence, but here I am! Back to posting again! I am not sure how or what this blog will evolve into, but for now, I am going to let it serve as a journey of what decisions are made by various inspirations while building and decorating a new house! Here is one of our new constructions, which will also serve as our new personal home (that is, until someone makes us an offer we can't refuse!). We are ready to move in, but construction seems to be moving at a snail's pace. I'm afraid if we don't get to move in soon it will sale before we ever get to spend one night in the new place! Burt has said this would be the case all along, but I am doing my best to prove him wrong! It sucks being crammed in our loft, but as you know, everyone else's homes come first! Here is a sneak peek of the exterior after the big snow last night! We should have gotten out and made a snowman, the kids next door had made two!

What Should I Do In Here?

This is a picture of my formal living space in my new home, and I am perplexed on what to do on these walls. I currently have stripes in my entry hall, and stenciling in my kitchen and dining room, so this room is looking so plain! Any suggestions? I might post some options later on today in between coats on my mirror frames.
(Sorry for the crappy pics, it was def the wrong time of the day to be taking pictures, the glare of the sun on the snow outside wasn't helping either! Neither were the dirty unsealed floors)

My New Obsession...Polka Dots!

I admit, I have went polka dot crazy in my new house with my fabric choices, and now, my closet and upstairs bathroom! They are so whimsical and fun! The tricky part is keeping them from looking like they belong in a 5 year old's bedroom! I have added these elements in places where big dramatic effects are accepted (such as the closet) or in places where they can be taken away or easily changed (such as furniture upholstery, bench seats, drapes, and handpainted mirrors.) Burt's sister Jamie is also incorporating Polka Dots in her home as well on a pair of french doors leading to her bedroom. I will ask her soon if she would allow me to take some pictures of her home. Everything is so whimsical and fun in her home and very unique! She has such a creative mind! I am posting some pic's of some of my fabric choices for the new house, let me know what you think!

My New Closet...Getting There!

If anyone halfway knows me, they know I have a LOT of clothes, so when I drew our new houseplans up, I penciled out room for an amazing closet space! I am so excited! Being such a devoted Juicy Couture lover, I wanted my colors to be Pink and Brown of course! Was there any other option?! I painted my ceiling a brown color named Coffee Bean, and used a base coat of a light pink called Yogurt, and used a Lowe's Shimmering Metallic paint in Starfish to cut in the stripes! So far I love it! I plan on adding the Flambeau Mignon Chandelier, as well as adding polka dots in Yogurt, Shimmering Starfish, and Gold metallic on my ceiling to match my new drapes! I am also going to have Bill build me a vanity mirror for my makeup counter and a long mirror. I plan on painting the base color Coffee Bean and adding Yogurt, Shimmering Starfish, and Gold metallic polka dots on the mirrors! I'm excited to see how it all turns out! I will post progress pics soon!!

New Endeavor...Mirror Frames!

Here is a really cheap, cool idea if you are wanting to change up your bathroom. When looking for new mirrors for my bathroom vanities in our new personal home we are completing now, I wanted something different, but needed to save some cash in doing so. (This particular house seems to be an endless money pit!ha) I really wanted to do something cool and different though, but needed help with the initial construction. I hit up my boyfriend and business partner Burt and our building superintendent Bill to help me construct the frames out of 1x8 pine and simple window casing. Cheap! The pine was simply cut to meet the measurements I gave them, and the casing will lay down on top of the mirror insert. I plan to use some crazy metallic, crackle, and stencil techniques. I will post progress pics as I complete them. All the frames are built, and I will start priming them today! Stay tuned, but for now, here is a pic of the frame freshly sanded and ready to prime!
